T.O.C. is engaged in talks with the New Haven Board of Education concerning improvements to translation services.

T.O.C. Translation Proposals

  • Translation at Mandatory Parent Meetings- Parent involvement is crucial to the success of our school system.  For all parents to be truly involved their district must provide the services parents need to communicate with educators and administration.
  • Translation of Documents- It is the Board of Education’s responsibility to make sure all parents stay informed on important school related matters.  They need to translate all documents so parents can stay informed about their child’s educational progress.
  • Availability of Interpreters in Schools-New Haven schools need to have access to interpreters and/or volunteers when they need to communicate with non-English speaking parents, and parents need to be proactivly informed about the availability of these services.
  • Translation at Board of Education Meetings- Public meetings need to include the entire public, regardless of race or language, to work effectively.  We want the Board of Education to provide equal access to these public meetings so that all the public can be informed and express their opinions on matters that affect the futures of their children.
